The Vietnam War

Bases on the recent work of Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, our meeting will discuss the Vietnam War. In preparation for this discussion, please watch the documentary series, “The Vietnam War” starting September, 17 on PBS, Channel 13 at 8 pm. Feel free to take notes as you wish. http://www.pbs.org/kenburns/the-vietnam-war/home/

You can also watch this series online after each episode airs on T.V.. http://www.pbs.org/kenburns/the-vietnam-war/watch/

Tonight is the first episode title, “Déjà Vu” (1858-1961). After a century of French occupation, Vietnam emerges independent but divided into North and South.

Over the next two weeks, 10 episodes will air.

Appreciating this series involves a major time commitment on your part, watch what you feel is appropriate to you and your schedule. Because Ken Burns’ work has been groundbreaking with every series he produces, it is believed this series will be no different. Our group is sure to find information worth exploring, and by doing so, we’ll better understand the world we live in today.

History educates the future, if we only take the time to look.
